Popular Kenyan music duo Vijana Barubaru has officially announced an indefinite hiatus, sending shockwaves across the Kenyan entertainment industry. The Nairobi-based group, made up of soulful singer Tuku Kantu and talented rapper Mwana Wa Wambui (popularly known as Mwanaa), confirmed the news in an official joint statement shared on their social media platforms.
The hitmakers behind chart-topping tracks like Sasa Hivi, Nakupenda, and Ihoho clarified that the decision is not a permanent split, but rather a strategic transition into a “new season” of their musical careers.
“As artists and as individuals, we have both continued to grow, and out of the desire to further explore our creative journeys, we have decided to go on a hiatus to focus on our solo careers,” the statement read in part.
The duo emphasized that the separation is completely amicable and driven entirely by a mutual desire for creative self-discovery. They took time to thank their loyal fanbase, the “Barubaru Nation,” for supporting them throughout their shared journey from independent acts to becoming household names.
While fans are drawing heavy comparisons to Sauti Sol’s famous hiatus, both Tuku Kantu and Mwanaa have promised to launch independent, personal projects in the coming months. They have urged their fans to show their solo careers the same energy and love they gave to the group.
